Rebecca Hall stars alongside Tim Roth in Andrew Semans’ psychological thriller “Resurrection” about trauma, grief and madness, which opens at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center Sept. 2.
Continuing is “Ali & Ava.”
With the opening of “Resurrection,” the Norman A. Geske Cinema Showcase sponsored by the Friends of The Ross will host “Resurrection” producer and NU graduate Tory Lenosky in a Q&A with the audience during the 7:30 p.m. screening.
Lenosky is an Emmy nominated producer who grew up in Omaha, Neb. She most recently produced the 2022 New York Times Critic’s Pick feature film “Resurrection.” In addition, this year she produced the Netflix comedy special, “Nightclub Comedian” starring Aziz Ansari.
“Resurrection” tells the story of Margaret’s orderly life. She is capable, disciplined and successful. Soon, her teenage daughter, who Margaret raised by herself, will be going off to a fine university, just as Margaret had intended. Everything is under control. That is, until David returns, carrying with him the horrors of Margaret’s past.
“Resurrection,” which is not rated, is showing through Sept. 15.
“Ali & Ava” tells the story of two people who develop a deep connection despite the lingering legacy of past relationships. Both lonely for different reasons, Ali and Ava meet through their shared affection for Sofia, the child of Ali’s Slovakian tenants, whom Ava teaches. Ali finds comfort in Ava’s warmth and kindness and Ava finds Ali’s complexity and humor irresistible. Over a lunar month, sparks fly and a deep connection begins to grow. However, the legacy of Ava’s past relationship and Ali’s emotional turmoil at the breakdown of his marriage begins to overshadow their newfound passion.
“Ali & Ava” is not rated and is showing through Sept. 8.
