Students in Chemistry 109 brace themselves for loud noises on the first day of the fall semester.
As part of his opening lecture, Nebraska’s Shuo Sun demonstrated the versatility of oxygen and water by showing how the two atoms — best known for teaming up to form water — can also produce a reactive gas. Sun filled a balloon with gaseous hydrogen peroxide before exploding it via the heat of a candle.
