A special Halloween Sci Pop Talk on “The Nightmares of Spiders” will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Peterson Room (Room 221) at Love Library, 13th and R streets.
Matt Wilkins from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Biological Sciences will talk about his research on communication in wolf spiders and the predators and parasites that plague them in the wild. Popcorn, cookies and iced tea will be served. The talk is free and open to the public.
In addition, those who attend the talk will get a preview of the schedule of Sci Pop Talks!, resuming in February. The series, in its third year, combines science and popular culture. The UNL Libraries provide an online list of books and other resources for every talk, which can be found at http://unl.libguides.com/scipoptalks.
The Sci Pop Talks! series builds on the science cafe model and is co-organized and sponsored by the UNL Chemistry Department, Doane College and the UNL University Libraries. Speakers give interactive 30-minute talks and then take questions. All talks are open to the public.
