The University of Nebraska State Museum’s Science Cafe series is moving to a new location, local craft beer bar The Happy Raven, 112 N. 11th St.
The free events are 6:30 to 8 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Science Cafe is a casual, educational and entertaining series where those 21 and over can hear from scientists, ask questions and offer opinions in an informal setting. Food is available for purchase from The Gilded Swine, and a cash bar is available.
Upcoming events, which are at The Happy Raven unless otherwise noted:
Jan. 23: “Weird and Wild Fungi” – Josh Herr, assistant professor of plant pathology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will discuss the fascinating world of fungi.
Feb. 27: “Pollen as Evidence: Investigations of Mummies” – Palynologists study pollen for tiny clues that can tell a big story. Karl Reinhard, professor of forensic science and environmental archaeologist at Nebraska, will discuss how pollen evidence is being used to uncover information about the past.
March 27: “Recovering Nebraska’s Indian Boarding School Past: The Genoa School Digital Reconciliation Project,” Nebraska History Museum, 131 Centennial Mall North – Margaret Jacobs, Chancellor’s Professor of History at Nebraska, will lead a panel discussion on the personal and historical impact of Native American boarding schools, the Genoa Foundation and efforts at ethical digitizing of indigenous historical materials.
