Sept. 27 Cellobration to feature Miguel Espinoza Fusion

Miguel Espinoza Fusion, a Latin jazz fusion group that will be in residence in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music on Sept. 25-26.

Miguel Espinoza Fusion, a Latin jazz fusion group, will be in residence in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music on Sept. 25-26, with a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 in Westbrook Music Building, Room 130. The concert is free and open to the public.

Miguel Espinoza Fusion is a world-class, global chamber group. Their album, “Living in a Daydream” was selected as the Best CD of the Year in the Indie Acoustic Project’s Best CDs of 2022-2023 awards in the jazz category. Their newest CD is “Gabriella,” which is available on Amazon and other streaming services.

Miguel Espinoza Fusion is the collective beating heart of musicians Miguel Espinoza (guitar), Dianne Betkowski (cello), David Hinojosa (percussion) and Randy Hoepker (bass). Their sound offers firm roots in flamenco, classical and jazz with North African rhythms woven throughout. Based in Denver, they are the winners of Westword Magazine’s Best of World Music. 

Betkowski will also be the featured guest artist for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cellobration on Sept. 27. She will give a masterclass and an improvisation class. Cellists of all ages are invited to this full day of music-making. Find more information and the link to register online

A final concert for Cellobration will take place at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Kimball Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. The concert features performances by Betkowski; Karen Becker, profesor of cello; students from the Korff School; and the Cellobration Cello Choir.

Betkowski has performed, toured and recorded with the St. Louis, Utah, Honolulu and Colorado symphony orchestras. She is also a composer, whose works have been performed by the Rochester Philharmonic and the National, St. Louis, Houston, Honolulu, Boston Civic and Colorado symphonies, among other groups. Her book, “How to Get to Carnegie Hall: A Weekly Music Practice Schedule” is in its second printing. She is the founder and former director of Denver Eclectic Concert.
