Charlotte Colbert’s highly accomplished, sly horror-drama “She Will” opens at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center July 22.
The more satisfying than scary film has an aging star visit supernatural comeuppance on terrible men.
Continuing is “Both Sides of the Blade.”
“She Will” explores the story of Veronica Ghent (Alice Krige) who after a double mastectomy, goes to a healing retreat in rural Scotland with her young nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt). She discovers that the process of such surgery opens up questions about her very existence, leading her to start to question and confront past traumas. The two develop an unlikely bond as mysterious forces give Veronica the power to enact revenge within her dreams.
“She Will,” which is rated R for atmospheric horror with violence, including sexual assault, strong language and some drug taking, is showing through July 28.
In “Both Sides of the Blade,” Juliette Binoche stars as Sara, a woman whose life spirals out of control when she becomes involved in a passionate love triangle. From acclaimed writer-director Claire Denis, the film follows Sara, her partner, Jean, and past love, Francois.
“Both Sides of the Blade” is showing at the Ross through July 28.
