Please don’t touch the bison.
An admonition expected from park rangers has made its way indoors to Sheldon Museum of Art galleries.
For the University of Nebraska–Lincoln museum, the animals in question are the 1,000 glass bison that compose Tiffany Chung’s artwork, “In Between Foraging Sites, First Raindrops and the Big.50.” The work is on view through Dec. 31 in “Unquiet Harmony: The Subject of Displacement,” an exhibition that explores individual and global perspectives in artworks focused on issues surrounding migration.
To remind patrons to remain a safe distance from the herd, museum security and visitor services staff are wearing T-shirts with a “Please don’t touch the bison” message.
The shirts will also be given to all students who present an NCard at Sheldon’s First Friday Big Red Welcome event, 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the museum. The free event will also feature music by Bow Ty Audio, an art-filled photo booth and an iced coffee bar.
