Seniors Jamie Smith of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Emmerson Putnam of Bellevue, Nebraska, have been crowned homecoming royalty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Smith and Putnam, elected in an online vote of the student body Oct. 2 and 3, were crowned on the field at Memorial Stadium during halftime of the Oct. 5 Nebraska-Rutgers football game.
Smith is a music education major in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. He is a member of the Black Masque Chapter of Mortar Board. He is also involved with UPC Nebraska and the UNL chapter of the National Association of Music Education. He is the son of Carrie Siepel and Roelof Siepel and the late Thomas Smith.
Putnam is a biological sciences major in the College of Arts and Sciences. She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, the family representative for Dance Marathon and a member of the Pre-Physician Assistant Club at Nebraska. She has also served as a New Student Enrollment orientation leader, College of Arts and Sciences ambassador and Husker Pantry volunteer. Off campus, Putnam is a patient care technician with Bryan Health. She is the daughter of Laura Putnam.
