Bones will rattle and spooks will howl during the University of Nebraska State Museum of Natural History’s “Fright at the Museum” event, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24-26.
The three-night Morrill Hall event is intended for children and families. Admission proceeds directly support the museum through new and enhanced exhibits, events and educational programming.
Participants should expect the unexpected and prepare to be scared silly in the natural history museum. Activities on the museum’s three floors will be spooky, educational and fun. Activity themes include candy catapult, dino disco, creepy creatures, scary science, laser shows and performances by the interactive music group The Mighty Magic Pants.
The entire third floor of the museum will feature science experiments gone wrong. The floor exhibits are recommended for children, ages 8 and up, and an accompanying parent or guardian.
Visitors are encouraged to dress up in costumes and bring bags to load up with candy and other goodies.
Admission to Fright at the Museum is $6 for adults and children ages 3 and up; and free for Friends of the Museum and children ages 2 and under. There are no discounts for UNL students, staff and faculty for the event.
Mueller Planetarium will present a special Halloween-themed laser show at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. each night. Tickets are $5 and will be sold in the planetarium lobby.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Children must be accompanied by adults. Visitor parking is free in the loop south of 14th and Vine streets and Area A/C on W Street between 14th and 16th streets. For more information, go to http://www.museum.unl.edu/fright.
