The Department of English is launching Colophon, a new series of live, online events with editors, agents, writers and other publishing insiders, in conversation about literary careers.
Timothy Schaffert, director of the creative writing program, will lead conversations covering a range of topics, from the literary journal to the major commercial houses of New York. The events are free and open to the public via Zoom.
The schedule of spring events is:
Brenda Copeland, 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24. Copeland is an independent editor with 25 years of publishing experience in New York. She was previously the executive editor of St. Martin’s Press and has also worked for Hyperion Books and Simon and Schuster. She has also taught editing at NYU’s Center for Publishing.
DeMisty Bellinger, 7 p.m. March 10. Bellinger is a Nebraska alumna who serves on the board of directors of Associated Writing Programs. This semester she is teaching “Composing Historical Poetry” at Sarah Lawrence College. She is on faculty at Fitchburg State University and is an editor at Malarkey Books and Porcupine Literary. She is the author of the books Peculiar Heritage (forthcoming) and Rubbing Elbows.
Alice Tasman, 5 p.m., March 25. Tasman is an agent in New York City with the Jean Naggar Literary Agency, since 1995. Focused primarily on literary fiction and memoir, Alice has brokered deals with all the major houses, including FSG, Knopf Doubleday, William Morrow, Simon & Schuster, and Penguin Random House.
