Nebraska’s International Quilt Study Center and Museum will host a free and public First Friday celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 2. The event will feature displays from Lincoln Public Schools students and Curator of Collections Carolyn Ducey.
“Discovering the Collection: A 20-Year Journey” celebrates Ducey’s 20th anniversary with the museum. The exhibition features her favorite quilts, as well as her recollections developing the museum and its world-renowned collection. As part of the grand opening Nov. 2, Ducey will give an introduction to the exhibition at 5:30 p.m. followed by a brief tour in the gallery.
“Quilts have taken me around the world — to artists’ studios and museums, to beautiful homes and incredible experiences,” Ducey said. “Quilts have led me to friendships I value and to people who have inspired me both in my career and my personal life.”
Her collection is on display in the museum’s Lois Gottsch Gallery from Nov. 2 to March 3.
Also on display will be “Power, Passion, and Politics,” a pop-up exhibit curated by Politics and Government students from Lincoln Public School’s Arts and Humanities Focus Program.
Each member of the Politics and Government class, taught by John Clark, selected a quilt reflecting themes of politics or social issues from the museum’s permanent collection. The students then composed text contextualizing and explaining the importance of the quilt they selected.
“Power, Passion, and Politics” be on display through Nov. 4 in the Dillow Conservation Work Room.
