
Counseling and Psychological Services is seeking highly motivated students passionate about assisting with suicide prevention programming for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Huskers Offering Peer Education will have the opportunity to facilitate Prevent Suicide training to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln community, assist in planning events and programming throughout the semester focused on suicide prevention and mental health awareness and participate in outreach events with CAPS, the peer educator team and campus partners.
For each completed semester of service, HOPE peer educators will receive $500.
Responsibilities of being a HOPE peer educator include attending a “Prevent Suicide” training and receiving a certificate of completion. After they will be able to facilitate trainings to the university community. Peer educators will be able to participate in outreach events related to suicide prevention and mental health.
Meetings with the Outreach and Suicide Prevention Coordinator and peer educator team will be held throughout the academic year to assist in planning and preparation for events/programming. Peer educators will have the chance to assist in preparing material and helping with administrative needs of the suicide prevention team.
Students interested will need to be registered as a full-time student, have a current academic standing of a 3.0 GPA or higher, and willingness to commit to one year as a peer educator. CAPS is looking for dedicated students with a strong passion for mental health, a willingness to support others, and a drive to foster a caring and informed campus community.
