Visitors to the University of Nebraska State Museum’s Sunday with a Scientist program for children and families can learn more about animal behavior and archaeology in the coming months.
The events, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. the third Sunday of each month at Morrill Hall, 645 N. 14th St., highlight the work of scientists while educating visitors on science and natural history topics.
Upcoming events are:
July 22: “They Do What?! Animal Behavior” — Jeffrey Stevens and Elise Thayer of the Adaptive Decision Making Lab in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Psychology will give a presentation. Visitors will learn how and why farm animals make certain food choices and about canine behavior through dog-training exercises. Visitors can play an interactive game to discover what animal they are most like.
Sept. 16: “Archaeology: Pieces of the Past” — Archeologists Nolan Johnson and Courtney Ziska of History Nebraska and certified local government coordinator Kelli Bacon will speak. Visitors will be able to make observations regarding who used various artifacts. Children and families can learn how archaeologists identify objects that are broken, and visitors can match prehistoric items with modern-day counterparts.
There is no August event due to Big Red Welcome.
