The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will offer four professional development opportunities for supervisors, sponsored by Human Resources and offered free of charge to university staff.

Designed to enhance leadership capabilities and foster a more engaged workforce, these sessions are a chance to enhance supervisory skills and make a significant impact on your team.

The sessions are as follows, and more information is available online.

Workplace Stability Workshop: Increase Retention by Reducing Instability — 1-4 p.m. June 23, Chimney Rock, Nebraska Union

The capacity is 40, but a waitlist is available. There is open enrollment via Bridge. Hidden challenges outside of work — like child care, transportation, or health care — can disrupt employee performance and drive turnover. Front-line staff often face these barriers daily, and their instability can quickly become your organization’s instability. This training gives supervisors practical, low-cost strategies to support employee stability and improve retention. Participants will learn how reducing instability boosts engagement, loyalty and profitability while creating an action plan for improvement.

The Gallup Manager Program — 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 16-17, Pioneer Suite, Willa Cather Dining Complex

Acceptance is by application only, and the capacity is 30. Visit the website to apply. The program is a premier leadership development experience designed to transform managers into high-impact coaches. Participants will learn how to apply a strengths-based, engagement-focused and performance-oriented approach to management, use CliftonStrengths® to lead with their natural talents, conduct effective coaching conversations that motivate and develop team members and drive performance by building engagement and addressing challenges through proven coaching techniques.

Participants will also receive two CliftonStrengths reports with their full 34 themes and a tailored Manager Report, a Gallup Manager Digital Kit that includes practical coaching guides, conversation tools and a learning journal, 10 online, self-paced learning in action Modules to help apply course insights to real-world management situations, virtual cohort reconnection and a 60-minute one-on-one coaching session with a Gallup coach.

Beyond the Annual Review: Performance Management for Supervisory Success — 10-11:30 a.m. July 29, Platte River Room, Nebraska Union

The capacity is 30. Open enrollment is available via Bridge. Transform your approach to employee development with this interactive session to help you enhance your performance management practices by exploring a clear, practical framework. Moving beyond traditional annual reviews, this program equips supervisors with strategies to implement performance management as a continuous, development-focused process. Whether you're new to supervision or looking to strengthen your skills, this session offers tools to make performance management a more strategic and supportive part of your leadership.

Crucial Conversations — This workshop is facilitated over two sessions, 2:30-4:30 p.m. July 31 and 2:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 14, Prairie B/C rooms, Nebraska Union
