
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Symphony Orchestra will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. March 11 in the O’Donnell Auditorium at Nebraska Wesleyan University, 5000-5098 Huntington Ave. The concert is free and open to the public.
The orchestra is under the direction of Tyler White, professor of conducting and composition and director of orchestras. Ramon Araújo and Manuel Monge-Mata will also be conducting.
The concert will feature the winners of the undergraduate and graduate student solo competitions. Gwen Leuschen, timpani, winner of the 2024-25 Undergraduate Solo Competition, will perform on William Kraft’s “Concerto No. 1 for Timpani and Orchestra.” Daniel Herbener, piano, winner of the 2024-25 Graduate Solo Competition, will perform on Maurice Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in D Major for the Left Hand and Orchestra.”
The concert program also includes Jean Sibelius’ “Finlandia, Op. 26” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8 in F Major, Op. 93.”
A third soloist winner, Justin Payne, tenor, winner of the 2024-2025 Graduate Solo Competition, will perform with the orchestra at its May 3 concert.
The Symphony Orchestra is made up of students from across the university. The orchestra maintains a national reputation for excellence, recognized by invitations to perform at national and regional conventions of music educators, and by four awards from the National Opera Association.
