Texas-based inventor Tim Jenison examines a painting in a scene from "Tim's Vermeer," a film opening March 21 at UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

The documentary “Tim’s Vermeer” and the Romanian drama “Child’s Pose” open March 21 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Both films play through March 27.

In “Tim’s Vermeer,” Texas-based inventor Tim Jenison tries to discover how 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer painted photo-realistically more than 150 years before the invention of photography.

Spanning a decade, Jenison’s quest takes him to Delft, Holland, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces on a pilgrimage to the north coast of Yorkshire. Jenison’s goal is to gain access to duplicate Vermeer’s “The Music Lesson,” which hangs in Buckingham Palace.

Both Jenison and “Tim’s Vermeer” producer Farley Ziegler will attend the 7:30 p.m. showing of the film and participate in a question and answer session following the screening.

Also showing is “Child’s Pose,” a sharply-crafted family thriller. The film features Angela Gheorghiu as a steely, upper-class Bucharest architect determined to keep her 30-something deadbeat son out of jail after a deadly car crash.
