In celebration of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s 150th anniversary, UNL Garden Friends is hosting a commemoration of the laying of the cornerstone for original University Hall.
The 5 p.m. Sept. 23 event will be at University Plaza (greenspace framed by Manter Hall, Woods Hall and Brace Labs). The site is near the original location of University Hall.
Kay Logan-Peters, professor of libraries and university history buff, will give a brief talk about University Hall. The cornerstone for the building, the first on the Nebraska campus, was laid Sept. 23, 1869. The building opened in fall 1871 and was razed in 1947. Eileen Bergt, assistant director of Landscape Services, will lead a tour of the area, which comprises the original four-block campus site.
Cookies and beverages will be available. The event is free and open to the public.
