Mary Hunt will give a virtual talk on “Gray areas and ‘Greening Out’: How Adults Navigate Consent in Cannabis-Involved Sexual Situations,” at 1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Register online for the Zoom link.
Researchers are interested in the intersection of sexual consent and substance use and mainly focus on alcohol use; few have examined the influence of cannabis use and consent, despite legalization and increase in access across the country. Hunt will present findings from a mixed-methods study assessing how adults, living in a state with recreational legality, determined one’s own ability as well as others’ abilities to consent in cannabis-involved sexual situations.
Hunt is an associate professor of public health at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. She is a mixed-methods researcher in sexual and reproductive health primarily focusing on exploring nuances and contexts of consent communication, including negotiating substance-involved situations, to inform and improve sexual violence prevention efforts. She directs the Research in Repro And Sexuality (or "razz") lab at Western.
This talk is sponsored by the Rural Drug Addiction Research Center and is an installment within its seminar series.
