Faculty and staff have the chance to participate in a summer edition of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s “Dinner in a Nebraska Home” program.
The program offers international students the opportunity to experience a private dinner in a home and connect with faculty and staff outside the classroom.
Participating students are fellows in the Fulbright English for Graduate Studies Program. They will participate in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Programs in English as a Second Language from July 7 to Aug. 4.
The pre-academic program, sponsored by the Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education, is designed to help international fellows develop language skills and knowledge of culture in the United States. The program helps the students excel in graduate programs.
Approximately 35 fellows representing 19 countries and 25 majors will take part in the four-week program before starting degree programs in universities across the nation.
As a part of the cultural component of the program, faculty and staff volunteers can host up to three fellows for dinner and conversation. The project is much like New Student Enrollment’s Dinner in a Nebraska Home program, which pairs international students at Nebraska with faculty and staff.
While it helps the visiting scholars, the program also helps host families learn about other cultures.
To participate or for more information, contact Barb Fuller at bfuller2@unl.edu.
Volunteers will participate in a brief introductory session and meet assigned fellows from 5 to 6 p.m. July 13. Home visits must take place between July 14 and Aug. 2. Host families must also provide the fellows’ transportation for the dinners.
