The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Wind Ensemble will perform a concert, “Golden Light,” at 3:30 p.m. March 8 in the Westbrook Music Building, Room 130. Seating is limited. Overflow will be in Room 119 with a simulcast on the big screen. The concert is free and open to the public.
“The Wind Ensemble’s March 8 performance will be an exploration of light,” said Carolyn Barber, the Ron and Carol Cope Professor of Music and Director of Bands. “Light, as it relates to color, as the composers translate the visible spectrum into the audible spectrum, and light as it relates to emotion as the composers convey details of mood inspired by their personal experiences.”
The program begins with David Maslanka’s “Golden Light.” Also on the program are Roy Magnuson’s “The Golden Gray” and Kimberly Archer’s “Symphony No. 3.”
“Both Kimberly Archer and Roy Magnuson studied composition with David Maslanka,” Barber said. “Although each has an undeniably individual compositional voice, all share certain subtle characteristics that tie the program together in a beautiful way. It will be an afternoon of contrasts, and an event not to be missed.”
