A Proactive Technology Training and Evaluation workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 12 in Room 152 of the Prem S. Paul Research Center at Whittier School , 2200 Vine St.
The workshop will present a proactive work zone warning system developed through a high-priority Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration research grant; demonstrate how the system warns drivers and highway construction workers; and gather driver and stakeholder feedback to guide implementation strategies for technology providers, federal/state Department of Transportation and contractors.
Work zones are some of the most safety-critical places on roads, especially for commercial motor vehicle drivers and highway construction workers. The center is developing proactive warning technologies to alert drivers sooner, improve decision-making and reduce crashes. Workshop participation will help ensure these tools work in real-world conditions.
There is also a virtual option to attend the event. Questions can be directed to Leah Urbank at 402-472-1975 or lurbank2@unl.edu.
