Writer Gabby Rivera to speak Nov. 15

Writer and storyteller Gabby Rivera will speak at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.

Rivera, a queer Latinx writer living in Oakland, California, is the author of the 2016 young adult novel “Juliet Takes a Breath” and the 2017-18 comic book “America,” featuring Marvel’s first queer Latina superhero, America Chavez. With nearly 8,000 subscribers on Instagram and more than 7,000 Twitter fans, Rivera speaks on her experiences as a queer Puerto Rican from the Bronx and LGBTQA youth advocate, as well as the importance of creating joyful narratives, at events across the country.

The Nov. 15 event, sponsored by UPC Nebraska and the LGBTQA+ Resource Center, is free for students with a valid NCard and $5 for faculty, staff and the public.
