A memorial dinner for Mark Awakuni-Swetland is noon, April 9 at the Indian Center, 1100 Military Road.
Awakuni-Swetland, who died Feb. 23, 2015, was an associate professor of anthropology and ethnic studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. His primary research areas included indigenous peoples, with a focus on the Omaha language. He also created UNL’s program in native languages.
The memorial dinner is free and open to the public. The program will be led by Malcolm Tyndall and Dorothy Tyndall. Participants are asked to bring their own dishes and chairs.
