A team of three College of Business Administration Master of Business Administration students is competing in the first MBA Investment Case Study sponsored by The Economist and Muddy Waters. A total of 23 teams will be evaluating the same problem and will produce a written report and 15-minute video explaining their analysis.
The UNL team includes MBA students in both the on-campus and online programs. Team members are Christopher Aumueller, of Bayreuth, Germany; Jeremy Bridges, of Fremont, Nebraska; and Dave Fuxa, of Omaha, Nebraska. Faculty advisers are Richard DeFusco, professor of finance, and Emre Unlu, associate professor of finance.
“We jump at unique opportunities that allow our online students to participate and network with our on-campus students,” said Nichole MacDonald, associate director for MBA Programs.
All teams will be evaluating the $3.5 billion acquisition by real estate website Zillow of rival Trulia.
Written reports are due Oct. 30. The video analysis will be live on The Economist’s website at http://www.economist.com/whichmba in November. Judges from Muddy Waters Research will select first, second and third place winners.
Voting for the People’s Choice award will begin Nov. 24 on The Economist’s website. Winners will be announced Feb. 6. The winning team will receive $10,000 and the People’s Choice will earn $3,000.
“This gives our MBA students the chance to showcase their skills and compete against other top universities,” DeFusco said. “Another benefit is that team members have their individual profile featured on the competition website.”
