Collaboration powers White's Oct. 3 recital

Darryl White, professor of trumpet, is featured in a 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 recital in Kimball Hall. Admission is free.

Darryl White, associate professor of trumpet, will perform with pianist Cristina Vlad and guitarist Ron Cooley in an eclectic recital of composers and styles at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Kimball Hall.

The recital, which is free and open to the public, will include music from England, Spain, Russia, Brazil and the United States. Composers featured are Sergei Rachmaninov, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Rodion Schtschedrin. The recital will also include an original composition performed and arranged by White on his most recent CD, “Resonance.”

White’s performance experiences include a wide range of idioms. He has appeared as guest soloist with the Omaha Symphony, Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, Mesa Chamber Orchestra, Grand Junction Symphony, Lake Forest Chamber Orchestra, Roaring Fork Jazz Festival, University of Nebraska Faculty Brass Quintet, the University Faculty Jazz Quartet and many other solo appearances and guest clinicians with college jazz bands and orchestras across the country.

A native of Warren, Ohio, White has been playing trumpet since the age of 10. Before his current position at UNL, White’s first college teaching experience was at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo.

White holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Youngstown State University, a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado.
