Empowerment Forum to explore diversity issues

The UNL Empowerment Forum is Nov. 14-15. The event is free and open to faculty, staff and students.

The UNL Empowerment Forum, an opportunity to help individuals learn about challenges in dealing with diversity issues, is Nov. 14 and 15. The event is free and open to UNL faculty, staff and students.

The theme is “Deconstructing Social Justice.” Events open at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 with a keynote address by Becky Martinez, an independent consultant and trainer with a focus on social justice, inclusion and leadership.

Martinez is an administrator within the California state university, the university of California and the Colorado state university systems. She is also a lead facilitator for the LeaderShape Institute.

Martinez will lead two sessions: 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room; and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Kauffman Center Great Hall. The Nov. 14 session will focus on understanding the diversity at UNL. The Nov. 15 presentation will feature small group discussions.

Snacks and prizes will be provided.

The UNL Empowerment Forum is organized by Student Affairs, University Program Council, Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, the Department of Sociology and College of Arts and Sciences.
