Give to Lincoln Day includes UNL nonprofits

The Lincoln Community Foundation hosts the fourth Give to Lincoln Day on May 28. The event is a 24-hour fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations, including some from the University of Nebraska.

UNL’s Nebraska Legends scholarship program is among the groups featured in the fundraiser. Managed by the University of Nebraska Foundation, Nebraska Legends is an academic success program designed to help students transition to college.

More than 770 students have attended UNL with assistance from Nebraska Legends since the program began in 2011. The average GPA of Nebraska Legends scholars is 3.5 compared to the average UNL freshman GPA of 2.85. The retention rate for participants is 93.2 percent, compared to 84 percent for all freshmen.

Next semester, Nebraska Legends will support more than 425 students.

The program was created through a partnership between UNL, the Nebraska Alumni Association and NU Foundation.

The Lincoln Community Foundation organizes Give to Lincoln Day. Every participating nonprofit organization will receive a proportional share of a $300,000 challenge match grant offered by the Lincoln Community Foundation and participating sponsors. The share will be based upon the percentage of dollars raised by each participating nonprofit.

The event runs from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. May 28. Gifts can be made online at http://givetolincoln.razoo.com or at the Lincoln Community Foundation, 215 Centennial Mall South.

The third Give To Lincoln Day on May 29, 2014 raised $2.7 million dollars in just 24 hours to help the local nonprofit community. Nearly 7,000 individuals made donations to 304 local nonprofit organizations.

Information on each participating nonprofit organization is available on the Give to Lincoln website.
