Jazz in June features Donna Singer, Doug Richards Trio

The 23rd season of the Sheldon Art Association’s Jazz in June concert series continues today with Donna Singer and the Doug Richards Trio.

The concerts are at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in June in the sculpture garden west of UNL’s Sheldon Museum of Art. Although the Jazz in June concert series is free, those in attendance are encouraged to make a donation of $10 per family to help ensure its continuation.

The event also includes a walking tour of newly planted areas near the Architecture Hall courtyard and Woods Hall, and a market featuring 25 vendors with food, drinks and artisan-made crafts.

The Jazz in June Market, located at 12th and R streets, opens at 5 p.m. The walking tour, led by Eillen Bergt, landscape architect and assistant director of Landscape Services, begins at 6 p.m. at the Sheldon’s east entrance.

Singer is a featured performer on the Europe Jazz Network and offers a repertoire of jazz, swing and rhythm and blues. Singer and the Doug Richards Trio receive prominent airplay in Europe, Africa and North America. Members of the trio include Richards, bass; Billy Alfred, keyboards; and Mike Cervone, drummer.

UNL BikeValet offers free secure parking for bikes from 5 p.m. to an hour after each Jazz in June concert. Parking is at 13th and R streets at the east end of the Jazz in June market.
