Lied presents 'An Evening with Paula Poundstone'

Paula Poundstone

Always fresh with the latest material, comedian Paula Poundstone will deliver her distinctive brand of wry, intelligent and witty comedy in a performance at the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7.

Tickets, starting at $25 for adults, are available at http://www.liedcenter.org, at the Lied Center Box Office, 301 N. 12th St., or by phone at 402-472-4747. Tickets to most Lied Center shows are available to students for 50 percent off.

“For 25 years the Lied Center has been presenting some of the greatest comedians of all time,” said Bill Stephan, executive director of the Lied Center. “In honor of our 25th anniversary, the Lied Center is presenting marquee artists in every art form. Our comedic line-up this season is especially impressive thanks to Paula’s performance, Jerry Seinfeld and the legendary Second City. I hope Lied Center patrons are ready to laugh.”

Best known as a regular panelist on NPR’s “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me,” the Emmy Award winner was the recipient of an American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-up Comic, and was recognized on Comedy Central’s “100 greatest stand-ups” of all time.

Twenty-five years ago, Poundstone climbed on a Greyhound bus and traveled across the country – stopping in at open mic nights at comedy clubs as she went. A high school dropout, she went on to become one of the great humorists of our time.

Poundstone was the first woman to win the cable ACE for Best Standup Comedy Special and the first woman to perform standup at the prestigious White House correspondents dinner. In March 2013, she joined Whoopi Goldberg, Joan Rivers and several other prominent women in comedy for a feature-length documentary on Showtime. Poundstone has starred in comedy specials on HBO and Bravo, and served as “official correspondent” for “The Tonight Show” during the 1992 presidential race.
