Nebraska Extension and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Department of Entomology are offering a new BugMasters volunteer program, where adults can learn more about insects. It will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 22 and 29 at the Peter Kiewit Lodge at Mahoney State Park, 28500 W. Park Highway, southeast of Ashland.
The two-day training camp will cover topics such as insect basics, pollinators, pests and how to teach insect programs. After the training, participants will be prepared to conduct outreach programs in collaboration with UNL for various audiences as part of one or more teams: educating youth through outreach, protecting pollinators, emerald ash borer education and bedbug mythbusters.
“Entomology outreach will help garner interest in insects as well as keep Nebraskans informed about emerging pest issues that may affect them,” said Erin Bauer, an entomology lecturer at UNL and BugMasters instructor.
The registration fee of $10 must be paid in cash at the event on July 22. Daily parking permits, refreshments and lunch are included.
