UNL’s Rodeo Association will host its 57th annual rodeo April 17-18 at the Lancaster Event Center.
Students within the rodeo association help organize and raise money for the rodeo. Logistics include purchasing fuel, stock and feed, as well as hiring safety professionals and renting the event space.
“The process teaches you a lot about how to build your self-character,” said Bryce Dibbern, president of the rodeo association and a senior animal science major. “You have to go out of your comfort zone when you raise money.”
The UNL Rodeo is held each year during CASNR Week, which is the annual celebration of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The week is planned, organized and executed by CASNR students.
The rodeo will bring hundreds of rodeo contestants and enthusiasts to Lincoln.
Rodeo tickets start at $10 and are available at http://lancastereventcenter.com. General admission tickets are also available at Lincoln’s Fort Western store, 5601 S. 56th St.
UNL students will be able to purchase tickets for $5 at the door.
Kids Day is 9 a.m. to noon April 18. Rodeo demonstrations and live animals will highlight the free family-friendly activities. Children 12 and under will receive free general admission to the 1 p.m. rodeo performance.
The UNL Rodeo Association is a member of the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Roughly 250 contestants from six states compete in 10 rodeos throughout the year for a chance to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. UNL’s rodeo team consists of 25 members from four states and 10 majors.
