As UNL works to create a better student union, officials are asking for opinions from those on campus – and Wednesday offered the first opportunity for students, faculty and staff to test out potential furniture options.
Chairs, stools and tables were scattered around The Crib for people to test, ask questions and share their thoughts.
“We had at least 150 students come in as well as some faculty, staff and members of the evaluation team,” said Sara Luther, sourcing manager with UNL Procurement. “This is a large project and it affects a lot of people so we wanted people to see all of it.”
The seating options are part of a $2.1 million renovation to the Nebraska Union that began this semester. In addition to the furniture, the renovation includes new carpet, vinyl flooring, paint, improvements to the south entrance and a redesign for the information desk and Caffina Café coffee shop. An evaluation committee will recommend what styles of furniture are chosen.
Large tables with outlets and bigger couches for lounge space are just a few of the options for new furniture. Chairs with and without arms, various heights of barstools and lounge chairs were also available for people to try out.
“We have a good mix of different types of furniture, which is nice,” Luther said. “We like to hear how people will use things.”
