The mix of summer sunshine and recent rains has pushed the flowers in UNL’s gardens into full bloom.
UNL offers more than 24 designed gardens maintained by Landscape Services. The planting areas, which started in 1871, include three native gardens with that feature plants found in southern-mixed grass prairies and tallgrass prairies.
The Love Garden, featured in a UNL Today slideshow, is the traditional entrance to UNL’s City Campus. Located immediately south of Love Library at 13th and R streets, Love Garden features nine planting beds that line walkways to the library. Originally a formal rose garden, Love Garden was renovated into its current design starting in 1981. Today, the garden, which covers 9,800 square feet, features 143 herbaceous perennials and grasses.

UNL’s gardens are open to the public at no charge from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. Most of the gardens can be viewed via taking one of the walking trails mapped for distance by UNL Campus Recreation. The City and East campus walking maps are available online via PDF.
