University instructors will participate in Tech EDGE 8, a conference that features new ways to use technology in the classroom, on Aug. 20. Hosted by UNL, the conference is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Henzlik Hall.
The conference will use elementary, secondary and university educators and technology specialists to showcase how they use technology in schools at all levels. These hands-on educators will demonstrate how to teach ideas, provide technical supports and show how to establish collaborative sessions to interact with other teachers.
Keynote speaker James Paul Gee, a professor of literacy studies at Arizona State University’s College of Education, will speak on “Literacy and Technology: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.” Gee has been widely influential in his methodology for studying communication in its cultural settings. He’s also written books on video games, language and learning and is widely published in journals in linguistics, psychology, the socials sciences and education.
