UNL hosts second annual Academic Advising Association conference Feb. 23

The second annual UNL Academic Advising Association conference takes place on Feb. 23 in the East Union. The theme revolves around assisting the “hidden student” and features an engaging keynote presentation from Kathleen Shea Smith, director of Advising First at Florida State University. Her address, “Advising Greatly: Shame, Vulnerability, and the ‘Hidden Student,’” explores shame and its antidotes.

The AAA is excited to expand the conference beyond UNL’s campus and this year includes participants from nine other institutions in the state of Nebraska. The conference is sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Department of Athletics, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education and Human Sciences and the Hixon Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.

AAA provides academic advisors, as well as faculty, staff and graduate students, with interests in advising, opportunities to network, opportunities to share and implement best practices and opportunities to increase collaboration efforts among colleges and departments.
