Vigil to remember Klein, Real

A candlelight vigil for UNL students Keaton Klein and Clayton Real is 9 p.m. Sept. 5 on the Nebraska Union Plaza.

Real, a freshman agricultural economics major from Grafton, died Sept. 5 at FarmHouse fraternity near East Campus. Klein, a senior accounting major from Lincoln, died July 14 in Prague, Czech Republic. Real was a member of FarmHouse fraternity, while Klein was a member of Delta Tau Delta.

The vigil is open to the public.

Linda Schwartzkopf, director of Greek Affairs, said the vigil grew from requests made by students.

“As both Keaton and Clayton were involved with fraternities on campus, students reached out to our office and asked if we would assist in the planning of a vigil,” Schwartzkopf said. “We obtained the blessing of both fraternities and moved forward with the request.”

The vigil will include presentations by local religious leaders and Juan Franco, UNL’s vice chancellor for student affairs. A member of UNL’s Counseling and Psychological Services will be on hand to let students know that services are available to help with the grieving process.
