Nebraska’s Caleb Fangmeier, a farm kid from Hebron, stayed up until 2 a.m. as an undergraduate to hear the announcement about the discovery of the Higgs boson. He now holds a doctorate in physics and works as a detector lab manager in Jorgensen Hall. His group is building nearly 2,500 particle detectors that will be used when the Large Hadron Collider restarts sometime between 2024 and 2026.
