Bureau of Sociological Research, Modern Languages partner to offer translation services

UNL

The Bureau of Sociological Research is partnering with the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures to deliver translation capabilities to campus, government, community and non-profit partners. It also allows the bureau to offer the vehicle to pay university graduate students for their work while offering professional development through translation opportunities for students.

“We’re very excited to partner with the community and to provide hands-on linguistic training for our graduate students who are interested in translation and interpreting,” said Nora Martin Peterson, Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. “We see this as a wonderful opportunity to bring together community engagement and education, which in our world, are increasingly intertwined.”

“There is a great need for translation services for research studies both at the University and in the state. We are so pleased to be able to offer this service to our clients, while helping UNL students get hands on experience,” Lindsey Witt-Swanson, associate director of the Bureau of Sociological Research, said.

Translation services will offer a variety of languages, including Spanish, German, French, Chinese and Arabic.

“We have a very talented group of students and are looking forward to launching this partnership!” said Peterson.

Individuals in need of translation services or to find out if a certain language is available, contact the Bureau of Sociological Research. .
