Jeff Zeleny will deliver the Bruning Public Service Lecture from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 in the College of Law’s Hamann Auditorium.
Zeleny, an Exeter, Nebraska, native and 1996 University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate, serves as CNN’s chief national affairs correspondent. Zeleny has traveled around the world covering the presidencies of George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden. His work spans Democratic and Republican primaries, mid-term and general elections, and coverage of presidential administrations and Congress.
During his presentation, “The Fourth Estate and the Presidency,” Zeleny will discuss having a front-row seat to cover five American presidential administrations during a quarter-century at the White House, Capitol Hill and across the country. He will also focus on why two pillars of public service — the media and politics — are even more essential in a highly-polarized era.
The Attorney General Jon Bruning Public Service Lecture offers students an opportunity to consider the significance of dedicating all or a portion of one’s career to public service. Bruning served as attorney general of Nebraska from 2003-2015 and as a state senator from 1997-2002. He earned a bachelor’s degree and juris doctor from the University of Nebraska.
Zeleny’s presentation is free and open to the public. The talk has been approved for one hour of CLE credit in Nebraska. For those wishing to receive credit, registration is required.
