At the end of week four, one out of every three University of Nebraska–Lincoln employees have stepped up to participate in the race for the Chancellor’s Cup.
The friendly competition is part of the university’s participation in the Lincoln-area Combined Campaign for Health and Human Services. The university is a longtime participant in the community fundraiser and campus leaders have challenged faculty and staff to expand annual giving to the four-week campaign.
To encourage participation by faculty and staff, weekly individual prizes are being awarded and the Chancellor’s Cup will be presented to the campus division that earns the greatest percentage of employee participation. Percentages include faculty and staff who submit pledge forms — even those who opt not to donate.
The Combined Campaign participation rate by Nebraska faculty and staff was 33 percent as of Nov. 24. The campaign is scheduled to continue through Nov. 30.
Teams that made the largest gains in overall employee participation in week four are listed below. Figures are total percentage points each unit gained, followed by participation rates in weeks three and four.
- Architecture, 23.2 (from 14 percent to 37.2 percent)
- Law, 22.7 (from 40.9 percent to 63.6 percent)
- Business and Finance, 21.3 (from 35.1 percent to 56.4 percent)
- Central Administration, 16.5 (from 12.8 percent to 29.3 percent
- Information Technology Services, 11.6 (from 41.2 percent to 52.8 percent)
The top five campus teams in week three, ranked by overall employee participation rate, are:
- Alumni Association/Chancellor, 67.9 percent;
- Law, 63.6 percent;
- Business and Finance, 56.4 percent;
- Information Technology Services, 52.8 percent; and
- Arts and Sciences, 46.2 percent.
Other campus teams above the 33 percent threshold include: Research and Economic Development, 40.9 percent; Journalism and Mass Communications, 38.9 percent; Academic Affairs, 38.2 percent; Architecture, 37.2 percent; and Student Affairs, 33.3 percent.

The winning unit will keep the Chancellor’s Cup until next year’s fundraiser. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the unit that reached the percentage the fastest.
All faculty and staff who participate by completing United Way campaign forms — including those who opt not to donate — will also be entered into weekly drawings. Four winners will be selected each week of the campaign.
Individual prize winners, selected randomly from all faculty and staff who submitted pledge forms, and their awards for week two of the campaign are:
Kathleen Ankerson, , dean of architecture, “Atlas of Nebraska” coffee table book;
Derrel Martin, professor of biological systems engineering, two tickets to a Lied Center for Performing Arts show
Bradley Nauman, computer specialist in arts and sciences, two tickets to a Chancellor’s football tailgate and skybox
Terry Workman, instructional design tech specialist with online and distance education, two chancellor’s tickets to a Husker women’s basketball game
Chancellor Ronnie Green, a co-chair for the campus drive, is helping lead the charge to increase donations from the university. During a campaign pre-launch at Nebraska Innovation Campus on Oct. 24, Green pledged to giving more than he has previously and committed to shaving his head if the university’s donation total exceeds $350,000.
