Diversity, inclusion resource fair to focus on mental health

A mental-health focused diversity and inclusion fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Nebraska East Union in celebration of World Mental Health Day.

Attendees can engage with campus and community partners about mental health resources, build awareness around biases and stereotypes related to mental illness, and learn how to improve personal well-being.

The day includes a resource fair, depression screenings, presentations, chair massages, Zumba and yoga.

All students, staff and faculty members are invited to attend. The event is being hosted in partnership with the Office of the Chancellor, the university’s Staff Diversity and Inclusion Inclusive Excellence Grant and the pledge to CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion.

A schedule of events includes:

  • 10 to 11 a.m. | An Introduction to Research at the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior by Cary Savage, director of the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior

  • 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. | Communication Needs of the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing by Carly Weyers, behavioral health coordinator for the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

  • 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. | Trauma Informed Support by Kara Brant, associate director for support and advocacy

  • 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Zumba class by Kwakiutl Dreher, associate professor of English and ethnic studies

  • 12 to 2 p.m. | Chair massages provided by Campus Recreation Massage Therapy
