Fernando harnesses Husker spirit in student recruitment efforts

A man with brown skin, dressed in a black button-up shirt, black and red plaid blazer, red bowtie, and red cowboy hat presents to parents of prospective Huskers.

Alex Fernando, assistant director of recruitment for the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, shows his Husker spirit while representing the university. Fernando is featured in the Cornhusker Superfans series highlighting Big Red pride across campus.

Alex Fernando's Husker spirit is on full display no matter where he is. As assistant director of recruitment for UNL's College of Journalism and Mass Communications, he doesn't shy away from telling students and families all of the good things happening at Nebraska. His passion also carries over to his home life, inspiring family and friends with his Husker pride.

Fernando has been a Husker fan since birth, his pride and values—Husker related or not—instilled by his mom. He carries those values through videos sent to his friends, a fleshed-out wardrobe, and the recruitment of future students.

"Some of my friends say they can't start their game day until they see my video," Fernando said of the tradition he's had since college.
