Study Studio is available on the second floor of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center.

The Harris Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host the fifth Global Heroism Studies Conference Sept. 15-16 in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center. The event is the main biennial gathering for scholars, researchers and practitioners in the field of Heroism Science. The theme of the 2025 conference is “Heroic Behavior in Theory and in Practice."

The keynote speaker, Catherine Sanderson, will open the event with the talk "Merely Bystanders: The Psychology of Courage and Inaction." She is the Poler Family Professor of Psychology at Amherst College and author of "Why We Act: Turning Bystanders Into Moral Rebels."

Nine panels of scholars will discuss topics around the theme throughout the two days. A Lunch and Learn on day two will feature sandwiches prepared by the Kosher Kitchen, and participants will learn about the "Heroic Imagination Project."

Registration for the conference is free for undergraduate students, $25 for graduate students and $75 for general admission.

Ari Kohen, director of the Harris Center and Schlesinger Professor of Social Justice in the Department of Political Science, organized the conference.

The first Biennial Heroism Science Conference was held in 2016 in Perth, Australia.
