“Friends and Colleagues: Work from Emeriti, Lecturers and Staff” is on display through Jan. 26 at the Eisentrager•Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.
Running concurrently with the exhibition is a special display of some of Myers B. “Bud” Cather’s artwork and information about his life. A new endowment recently announced in memory of Cather, a distinguished commercial artist, advertising executive and Air Force bomber pilot, will create new opportunities for students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History and Design.
A distant relative of famed author Willa Cather, Cather studied art and played on the Cornhusker football team while a student at Nebraska in the 1930s. He was a decorated pilot and squadron commander in the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He later became an advertising executive for the Detroit automobile industry and was vice president of the Bristol-Myers Product Division in New York City.
Members of Cather’s family will attend a presentation about the Myers B. Cather Art Fund Gift during a special closing reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 26 in the gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.
