The Sept. 5 investiture for Dr. Jeffrey P. Gold, NU president, is 2:30 p.m. Sept. 5 ing the Nebraska State Capitol Rotunda.

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will hold an investiture ceremony for Dr. Jeffrey P. Gold, the NU system’s ninth president, on Sept. 5. The event is free and open to faculty, staff, students and the public.

The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of the Nebraska State Capitol, 1445 K St. in Lincoln. The ceremony will also be live-streamed (URL to be announced).

A reception will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s International Quilt Museum.

An investiture is an academic ceremony that has symbolized the pursuit of knowledge since the Middle Ages. Today, universities view investitures as opportunities to welcome a new era and celebrate as a community.

The selection of the Nebraska State Capitol — the peoples’ house — as the site of Dr. Gold’s installation as president of the peoples’ university represents Nebraskans’ collective role in serving the state and building a better future.

“I continue to be deeply humbled and honored to serve our great university in this role,” said Gold, who began his tenure on July 1. “I see this event as an opportunity to join with each and every person who has a stake in the success of the University of Nebraska and our state, reflect on our historic legacy and set the stage for an extraordinary future.

“Our best days are truly ahead, and we will realize them together.”

Faculty members are invited to march in the formal processional during the investiture. Those marching will be required to wear academic regalia. Regalia orders can be made through an RSVP form here and must be submitted by Aug. 2. Faculty who are planning to march in their own academic attire are asked to fill out the RSVP form to ensure an accurate count of participants.

Details on the investiture and a formal invitation, as well as RSVP information given that space will be limited, will follow in the coming weeks. Information on investiture activities will be updated as it becomes available at https://nebraska.edu/investiture.
