Law seeks volunteers for regional trial team competition

Nebraska College of Law will host the Region 12 Trial Team Competition Feb. 15-17 at the Lancaster County Courthouse.

Acting witnesses and trial judges are needed during the competition. Each mock trial requires four witnesses. Witnesses will be given facts and documents related to the case, and are responsible for acting out testimony. Student advocates will be responsible for examination and cross-examination of each witness on the witness stand. Legal knowledge or understanding is not a requirement to participate as a witness. Trial judges will be responsible for presiding over the mock trials and will make decisions in each case’s outcome. Trial judges must possess a degree from an ABA-accredited institution and be attorneys currently practicing or retired from practice.

Witness volunteer and trial judge details are available online. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

The National Trial Competition is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Texas Young Lawyers Association. The competition encourages law students to develop trial advocacy skills and strength those skills through high quality competition.
