Julie Yardley

Julie Yardley, 69, of Lincoln, a retired staff employee, died May 8.

She was born Dec. 16, 1955, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Walter and Lucille (Schroeder) Kopetzky. She married Roy Yardley on Nov. 16, 1991, at St. Joseph Church in Lincoln.

Yardley was a 1974 graduate of Scotus Central Catholic High School in Columbus and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Kearney State College. She managed the NCard Office at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for many years, serving thousands of students, faculty and staff until her retirement in 2022. A passionate Husker fan, she found joy working on campus.

Known for her generosity and love of animals, Yardley always shared her home with at least one dog — often more — and the occasional cat.

Survivors include her husband, Roy; son, DJ Yardley (Tess Barnes); sister, Kathy Haas; brothers, John (Patty) Kopetzky and Kent (Amy) Kopetzky; in-laws, Lora Yardley, Sid Yardley, Mary Osborne (Matt Clough), Owen (Laurie) Yardley, and Lisa Yardley; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth; her parents; in-laws, Donle and Margy Yardley; sister, Jeanne DeRuyscher; and brothers-in-law, Carl DeRuyscher, Raleigh Haas, Ken Cauble, Ron Osborne and Jack Wyant.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 16, at St. Joseph Church, 1940 S. 77th St. The family encourages attendees to wear red in honor of Julie’s love for the Huskers.

Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
