The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s second STEM Education Research Retreat is Oct. 18 at Hardin Hall and will feature projects from university STEM education researcher. It also will provide a chance to interact with a program director from the Directorate for Education and Human Resources at the National Science Foundation.
The retreat is intended for all faculty, staff, postdoctoral research assistants and students who are conducting science, technology, engineering or mathematics education (STEM) research at Nebraska. The retreat’s goal is to provide an avenue for the STEM education research community to learn about others’ projects and develop research collaborations.
The retreat consists of two main events:
Knowledge sharing. An interactive poster session, allowing an opportunity for participants to showcase their teaching, extension, and/or research programs designed to foster science or STEM literacy will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Presenters will be asked to provide a brief one- to two-minute overview of their work and contribute a poster through which to communicate and engage with other attendees as part of the session.
NSF funding. Kevin Lee, program director in the Division of Undergraduate Education within the NSF Directorate for Education and Human Resources, will join remotely from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. Lee will provide an overview of programs in which there are opportunities for Nebraska faculty to compete, including IUSE, S-STEM, Noyce, and ECR. He will also provide some context about the increasing importance of STEM education research at NSF and offer pointers about doing business with NSF.
The deadline to register or present a poster is Sept. 30. For more information about the retreat and to register, those interested can click here. Those with questions can email Marilyne Stains at mstains2@unl.edu.
