The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is holding a workshop for students interested in becoming inclusive leaders.
The Student Inclusive Leadership Retreat is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 3 in the Willa Cather Dining Complex. The retreat will provide information on how students can become leaders in the classroom, in university clubs or organizations, and in the community.
Topics will increase awareness of what it means to be an inclusive leader, promote confidence in facilitating conversations about inclusion and diversity, and help build connections to other students, staff and faculty leaders. The day will include small group activities and discussions, guided reflections, and scenario role playing designed to prepare students to think deeply about how to lead inclusively.
Students who participate in this retreat will be well prepared to apply for university leadership positions. Participants will also be certified to serve as facilitators for Husker Dialogues, a campus-event for first year students.
Free lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Registration, which is available online, is limited to 150 students. For more information, send email to Amy Goodburn, senior associate vice chancellor and dean of undergraduate education, at agoodburn1@unl.edu.
The Student Inclusive Leadership Retreat is supported through a grant by Union Pacific. Staff support on campus is provided by Career Services, Undergraduate Research, Honors Program, Academic Success and Intercultural Services, Learning Communities, First-Year Experience and Transition Programs, New Student Enrollment, William H. Thompson Scholars Learning Community, Center for Civic Engagement, and Nebraska College Preparatory Academy.
