Two new films, “Ruben Brandt, Collector” and “Birds of Passage,” open at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center March 22.
“Ruben Brandt, Collector”
“Ruben Brandt, Collector” is an animated film that details the heist of 13 paintings from the world’s most renowned museums and private collections. The thief, psychotherapist Ruben Brandt, has an interesting motivation for stealing the paintings — and becomes the most wanted man in the world for his crimes.
“Ruben Brandt, Collector” is rated R for nude images and some violence. It plays through March 28.
“Birds of Passage”
“Birds of Passage” traces the collision between the 1970s Colombian drug war and the country’s indigenous Wayúu people. As one Wayúu man finds instant wealth in the business, he grapples with the ancient traditions that previously guided him and witnesses the trade’s dark impact on his people.
“Birds of Passage” plays through March 28.
